CERGAM is pleased to invite faculty members and PhD students to the 7th CERGAM International Seminar, featuring Dr. Burcu Bulgurcu, Associate Professor of Information Technology Management at the Ted Rogers School of Management, Toronto Metropolitan University.

Research Talk: From Safety to Creativity: Rethinking Privacy and Security in the Digital Era

This seminar presents insights from a decade-long research program examining how the strategic use of privacy can foster creativity, experimentation, and digital innovation in workplaces. The talk will also introduce ongoing research exploring how perceived safety and digital exhaustion influence users’ digital behaviors, offering new perspectives on human-centered cybersecurity and privacy decision-making

Guest Speaker: Dr. Burcu Bulgurcu

Ted Rogers School of Management, Toronto Metropolitan University (Canada) Dr. Bulgurcu’s research focuses on human-centric cybersecurity, information privacy, social media, business analytics, and data visualization. Her work examines how organizations can design privacy-preserving technologies, effective cybersecurity policies, and awareness programs that support safer digital environments while fostering innovation. 

Her work has been published in leading academic journals such as MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction, and MIT Sloan Management Review.

Supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), her contributions have also been recognized through several distinctions, including the Dean’s Scholarly, Research and Creative Activity Award (2024) and the TRSM Research Recognition Award.
